I use silver as my canvas to translate my drawings, from nature, into the metals surface using chasing and repoussé.

Chased shallow dish with interweaving wild flowers and leaves 🍃

I made this while @therepairshoptv were filming here. I began by sinking the form and planishing the surface, before building the floral decoration through chasing — using steel tools to embed texture and fine detail into the silver.

Hello! I’m Katie, a silversmith and jeweller creating thoughtfully handcrafted pieces that tell detailed, illustrative stories of nature in silver, inspired by the landscapes of Scotland.

I tend to include hidden details in my work whether that be tiny insects illustrated on the inside of a box or leaves scattered on the base of a cup - with layered textures, gemstones, and touches of gold that bring each scene to life. I love making pieces full of detail so you spot something new every time you look.

I’ve recently been exploring new ideas and materials (lately wood, copper patination, and more sculptural objects), but with chasing and repoussé at the heart of what I do.

I’m based in the Scottish Borders at @marchmontsilversmiths within @hugoburgefoundation, where I manage the workshop and work alongside a brilliant creative community.

I run chasing and repoussé classes, build collections for exhibitions through the year as well as work on commissions from you lovely lot!

So grateful to be doing what I love, even if it’s a bit of a rollercoaster! 💛

Really excited to have a few piece’s in the Visual Arts Scotland 2025 Biennial Exhibition ‘The Thread That Pulls’, taking place across the Upper Galleries of the Royal Scottish Academy building in National Galleries of Scotland!

The show brings together over 400 artworks from artists and makers from various disciplines. On until the 2nd of January (excluding Christmas and Boxing Day) so go see it while you can. ✨

I’ll be bringing plenty of Robin and Snowy Owl decorations — perfect for making your tree look extra fabulous! They’re also available in my online shop.

Although they make lovely festive ornaments, they’re beautiful all year round too. I keep my snowy owl perched on the curtain rail by the window, and my robin hangs on the wall! 🦉❤️

I’ve also made many of them into pendants and brooches if you prefer to wear your birds with you ✨
