10 – 3pm
Materials included: Silver strip 18x1.5cm and to experiment 5x5cm copper sheet square.
In this class you will start with experimenting with the different punches on a copper sheet. Once you’ve worked out what you like and how the tools work you can start on the strip of silver which could just be textured if you’d prefer! After you’ve finished with the design you will learn to form the bangle around a mandrel to create an open cuff, which is easily adjusted for your wrist size. You can work on cleaning up the bangle and just like that you’ve made a wonderful piece of jewellery for yourself or for a gift!
- Please bring some line drawings/ideas with you as well as a notebook/pencil. It doesn’t have to be anything complicated; a simple design can work nicely and you can always build upon the design. Please design within the dimensions of the materials provided. You are welcome to email me your design beforehand to see if it is achievable within the timeframe.
- Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided, but please bring your own lunch as the workshop is quite remote so no cafes on the doorstep unfortunately! We have a kettle, hob, oven, microwave and fridge in the kitchen of the workshop.
Decorate and Form a Silver Bangle
Please note before booking: This course fee includes a deposit of £50. In the event of cancellation less than 30 days before the course, this deposit becomes non-refundable but may be transferred to another available course date. For courses cancelled with less 48 hours of the booked date, no refund will be given. In the event of cancellation by Katie, an alternative date will be offered, or full refund given and will give you as much warning as possible which will be no less than a week before the class is due to take place.
Please note the workshop is quite remote so please plan ahead accordingly. It is best if you can drive here, otherwise it's alot trickier by public transport. From Edinburgh you would have to get the train to either Berwick-upon-Tweed or Galasheils and then a bus from there to Polwarth Road End (near duns and greenlaw). I can then pick you up from the bus stop if needed or it's a 40 minute walk. Please also note public transport times are limited and the last bus may be before 5pm on a Sunday.
If you are needing to stay the night somewhere I'd recommend The Plough Inn at Leitholm. https://www.theploughinnleitholm.co.uk/ Alternatively if you don't drive, let me know and I may be able to provide somewhere onsite but this is not guaranteed.
